A narrative review of nitrogen-balance and tracer work puts an athlete's useful range at roughly 1.2–1.7 g/kg/day — well below the 1 g per pound (about 2.2 g/kg) this card uses as a simple target.

Where this falls down
Still unknown. The 1 g per pound mnemonic overshoots the 1.6 g/kg plateau in the training meta-analysis; extra protein past that is mostly expensive urine in people who already lift.
