Magnesium glycinate
Evening, ~400mg.
Priority Matrix
The numbers.
Four dimensions, scored 1–6, where six is always the good end: cheapest, quickest, easiest, highest impact. Priority is Impact squared, divided by what it costs you in energy, money and time.
How sure we are
Kept separate from the priority score on purpose: confidence in the evidence never raises how worth-it something is.
What we read
- The effect of magnesium supplementation on primary insomnia in elderly: A double-blind placebo-controlled clinical trial
Journal of Research in Medical Sciences · 2012
In 46 older adults with insomnia, 500 mg of magnesium for 8 weeks improved insomnia scores, sleep time, and serum melatonin versus placebo — one small trial.
- Oral magnesium supplementation for insomnia in older adults: a systematic review & meta-analysis
BMC Complementary Medicine and Therapies · 2021
Three RCTs totaling 151 older adults found magnesium slightly improved sleep time and efficiency, but the trials were small and at high risk of bias — the authors called the evidence low-certainty.

Where this falls down
Still unknown. Glycinate is the form on this card because it is well tolerated, not because a head-to-head trial showed it beats oxide or citrate for sleep; most insomnia trials used other salts.
