D3 + K2 supplementation
Priority Matrix
The numbers.
Four dimensions, scored 1–6, where six is always the good end: cheapest, quickest, easiest, highest impact. Priority is Impact squared, divided by what it costs you in energy, money and time.
How sure we are
Kept separate from the priority score on purpose: confidence in the evidence never raises how worth-it something is.
What we read
- Vitamin D Supplements and Prevention of Cancer and Cardiovascular Disease
New England Journal of Medicine · 2019
In 25,871 US adults, 2,000 IU of vitamin D3 daily for 5.3 years did not reduce invasive cancer or major cardiovascular events versus placebo.
- Effects of vitamin D supplementation on musculoskeletal health: a systematic review, meta-analysis, and trial sequential analysis
The Lancet Diabetes & Endocrinology · 2018
Pooling 81 trials, vitamin D supplementation did not reduce fractures or falls, or improve bone mineral density, in community-dwelling adults — most of whom were not deficient.
Research from Brigham and Women's Hospital · University of Auckland. We cite their published work. They have no involvement with Anew.
Where this falls down
Not for everyone. People already sufficient on a 25-OH D test gain little from more pills; megadoses have been harmful in trials.
Still unknown. K2 is bundled here as a theoretical cofactor for calcium handling — that pairing has not been tested at outcome scale the way D3 has, and D3 itself failed its two biggest prevention trials in replete adults.
